Summer Day Camp 2022

This was Salam Central’s first summer camp, they were flooded with feelings of uneasiness and anticipation. They worked tirelessly for months tying up loose ends and making sure they left no stones unturned when it came to the overall flow of the camp. They worked well together as a group and demonstrated the most impressive display of teamwork since they started.

Although nervous at times they persevered because of the underlying confidence in each of their own abilities.

Although the commencement of the camp was slower than anticipated, the group quickly adapted and sprung into the leadership they were training to become. In so, the children were receptive, remaining cooperative and joyful throughout the week.

This resulted in an environment one would look forward to attending each day.

With every new experience comes challenges and learning curves to overcome. The group did not let setbacks overtake them, and instead flourished in those circumstances, showing to continuously learn from situations and each day come back stronger. It was clear to see how the enjoyment of the children had affected the Salam Central team. They witnessed first hand their hard work paying off, and so, enjoyed the camp with the children and dissolved any lingering stress in their systems.

As the camp came to an end, the group found themselves with a mix of emotions.

It was saddening to see the children leave, however, heartwarming to know that this camp was a highlight for many.

Successfully completing this had strengthened their confidence and given them inspiration to tackle other projects within the community. Salam Central is grateful to have been able to create a safe and fun environment for the children.Using the feedback and insight they’ve gained from this experience, they will adjust next year's summer camp and inshallah transform it into an event marked in every parents’ calendar.
